WHAT IS A ROBOT ? 

Czech Playright Karel Capek wrote R U R (Rossums Universal Robots) in 1921.

The story tells of a world where all work is done by machines, these machines

were called "Robota" the czech word for forced labour.

"A Robot is an automatically operated machine that replaces human effort"

In The 1940's Science Fitchen writer Issac Asimov wrote a series of stories and Novels.

 From these novels we have asimov's Laws of Robotics

1. A Robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A Robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict

with the first law.

3. A Robot must protect its own existance, as long as such protection does not conflict

with the first or second law

4. A Robot must not injure humanity, or through inaction allow humanity to come to any harm.

 Today Robots perform tasks that are dirty, dangerous or mundane for humans.

Robots In our Future ?

At present alot of research is being carried out worldwide on robotic control sytems,

artificial intelligence , motors and other electronic ideas. We already have single task robots

eg Lawn mowing robots, simple robot toys however in our future we will expect to see a convergence

of years of robot research and maybe we will see an automatic Homebot(RoboButler) to help with our domestic chores.

Other uses of robots in our future will be: Military robots,Healthcare robots and farming robots to name just a

few. At present scientists are debating whether a robot can have human rights??
